This session presented the history, architecture, and features of Drupal Commerce 2.x on Drupal 8. Commerce 2.x development began with a code sprint in July 2014. The team first released a handful of standalone PHP libraries — for example, libraries for currency formatting and addressing — and then created modules that make use of them, such as the new Address module. Finally, Drupal Commerce itself was rebuilt from the ground up, taking full advantage of Drupal 8's new features.
What the Session Covered
- Installing the necessary dependencies for Commerce 2.x
- Configuring a store, including currency and address formatting
- Working with product variants and the new product architecture
- Understanding how Commerce 2.x leverages Drupal 8 core improvements
Who Should Watch
No prior Drupal Commerce experience was required, though familiarity with Drupal 8 was helpful. The session was suitable for developers and site builders evaluating Commerce 2.x for e-commerce projects.
About the Speakers
The session was delivered by the Drupal Commerce team, whose work on Commerce 2.x began in mid-2014. The Drupal Commerce 2.x project represents a complete rewrite for Drupal 8, built on modern PHP libraries and Drupal 8's architectural improvements.
Drupal 8 Day was organized by OSTraining and took place on November 19, 2016, as a 100% free online Drupal Camp celebrating the first anniversary of Drupal 8's release.
